About the SE4A Conference.

The Southeast Association for Area Agencies on Aging (SE4A) Annual Conference is coming to Louisville! SE4A Annual Conference draws major national speakers and 500 people from over nine states. With the theme “Aging to Perfection,” this year’s 4-day conference in Louisville features several national keynote speakers, over 40 presentations, several mobile workshops featuring the innovative aging-related efforts in Louisville, as well as CEU and training opportunities. The Conference also includes an evening event and party at the Louisville “Ice House.”
 

Who Should Attend.

This conference will feature professionals from the field of gerontology and geriatrics. These professionals are leaders in their field and represent a cross-section of the nation. Older adults, their caregivers, and other community members are welcome to attend. 

About the Conference.

Keynote Speakers:

  • Sun., Sept. 30: Vallie Collins, National Motivational Speaker
  • Mon., Oct. 1: Brad Montgomery, “Embrace Your Awesomeness,” Motivational Speaker
  • Tues., Oct. 2: Sandy Markwood, CEO of the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging
  • Wed., Oct 3: An older adults panel discussion on the conference theme “Aging to Perfection”

Pre-Conference Intensive Workshops:

  • Basic Training and CIRS A/D Exam Preparation for Information and Referral (I&R) Specialists
  • Advances in Alzheimer’s Research: Preclinical Diagnosis, Drug Discovery, and Care
  • Aging and Pharmacotherapy: A review of principles, guidelines, and inter-professional care

AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities (this session is free and open to the public)

Presentations (Workshops):

  • Seven workshop tracks: Ombudsman; SHIP; Wellness/Nutrition; Innovations; Resilience/Emergency Preparedness; Health; Leadership/Business Acumen
  • Over 42 workshops on diverse topics intersecting the topic of aging such as: Medicare/Medicaid, universal design, opioid and alternative pain management strategies, technology innovations, policy updates, elder abuse prevention, compassion & spirituality, Alzheimer’s & Dementia, transportation, long-term care facility business best practices, new assessment tools for care coordination, LGBT population, palliative care, arts & creativity, and self-care. Mobile Workshops Featuring Louisville’s Innovation in Aging:

  • Mon., Oct. 1: Participate in a holistic, interactive, and interdisciplinary patient care-planning experience at the UofL Institute for Sustainable Health & Optimal Aging.
  • Mon., Oct. 1: Innovation Walk to Thrive Center featuring a panel discussion on aging-in-place technology innovations.
  • Tues., Oct 2:Explore the “Fresh Stop Market” food model and tour of Smoketown Market with New Roots, a Louisville-based food justice organization.
CEUs & Training Opportunities:
Continuing education credits or units are provided for:
  • Nurses: 16.8 Credit Hours
  • Social Worker: 16.8 Credit Hours
  • Long-term Care Administrators: 16.8 Credit Hours
  • Physicians: 14 CME Category 1 Hours 

The following professional development training will be available at the Conference:

  • AIRS Certification Test, Tuesday, October 2. In order to take this test, registration fee and application need to be submitted to AIRS at least 30 days prior to test date.


Learn about the Optimal Aging Conference:

The Optimal Aging Conference brings together academics, health care & social service professionals, and older adults across a variety of disciplines who are united by a belief that aging is an opportunity, not a disease. Previous attendees are encouraged to present and attend the SE4A Conference being held in Louisville in 2018. The Optimal Aging Conference will resume in 2019 and is hosted jointly by the UofL Institute for Sustainable Health & Optimal Aging and the Kentucky Association for Gerontology.
