RSVP by emailing Mona Huff at [email protected]. **** Friday, September 7 | Gold Standard Award for Optimal Aging Ceremony & Luncheon A signature Optimal Aging Month event, the Gold Standard Award for Optimal Aging celebrates and honors older adults who embody the Institute’s vision for a world where all older adults lead engaged and flourishing lives. This award recognizes older adults who are 85 years or older and who are outstanding models of optimal aging in the following four categories: physical, social, spiritual and creative. Congratulations to all the nominees and awardees! **** Saturday, September 8 | Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's Join us in walking to end Alzheimer's! **** Thursday, September 13 | Bullitt County Wellness Walk Join the Bullitt County Health Department for their “Family Fest” at Roby Elementary. The "Family Fest" promotes the importance of families being physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally fit. Booths will be onsite to provide valuable information about health services. During the walk, participants will be given pedometers to determine which persons and counties had the most steps during the hour walk. Bullitt will be competing with other counties for a traveling trophy based on most steps per county. Awards are available for individuals with most steps in a given age group. Participating multigenerational families will also have special recognition. Review the list below to attend you local County Wellness Walk! The walks will be held simultaneously - except for the Bullitt County walk to be held on Thursday, September 13th. **** Saturday, September 15 | Advocacy Day At the halfway point through Optimal Aging Month, we want to draw special attention to several advocacy issues relating to older adults as well as some ways you can join us in improving the systems, policies, and supports that impact the way we age. To view the draft strategic plan, click here. **** Thursday, September 20 - Friday, September 21 | GWEP Networking Training* In recognition of the emerging national potential of the our Flourish Index, HRSA selected the Institute to lead a two-day training at 21c Hotel for GWEP programs at four universities: University of Iowa, Rush University, University of Utah, and Indiana University. The theme of the training is Human Flourishing as an Outcome of Integrated Models of Care: The Use of the Flourish Index to guide outcomes for older adults. The "Flourish Index” is a new assessment tool developed by the Institute that evaluates human flourishing and health outcomes data for older adults. *By invitation only Week 4 Events: 9/22 - 9/30Tuesday, September 30 - Wednesday, October 30 | SE4A Conference The Southeastern Association of Area Agencies on Aging (SE4A) is hosting its annual conference this year in Louisville, KY at the Downtown Marriot Hotel, September 30 – October 2. This conference is held in partnership with the Kentucky Association for Area Agencies on Aging and the Optimal Aging Conference. The SE4A Annual Conference draws major national speakers and 500 people from over nine states. With the theme “Aging to Perfection,” this year’s 4-day conference in Louisville features several national keynote speakers, over 40 presentations, several mobile workshops featuring the innovative aging-related efforts in Louisville, as well as CEU and training opportunities.
